Take me out to the ballgame (2)

So, it was Chris Davis bobble-head day at Camden Yards yesterday as the Orioles wrapped up their season against the Red Sox (whipped their beehives 7-6 for the record; thanks for playing bearded nation). We got there early thinking we'd mosey on in, get our, evidently highly coveted bobble-heads, and hang out, maybe go watch some batting practise, try to get some photos of William with some players. Ya, no. We got there early OK only to find 1000s of peeps had apparently been camping out overnight to snag these things. It was so hot, so crazy crowded, fights were breaking out because some people refused to observe the established line etiquette, and so on. Ick. So Chris, seriously dude, I love ya, and you're all kinds of awesome, but don't ever do that to me again. It was a rather unpleasant scene. Since we were eventually lucky enough to get our bobble-heads, I'm thinking I might just put 'em up on eBay. Bobble-heads are an actual thing. Who the heck knew this??

Fall ball 2013

This is William yesterday at the third to last game
of fall ball. I have no idea what we are
going to do with ourselves now that we have
no Orioles and no Giants to schedule
our schedules around. William has the makings
of a great player. He needs to get with an
excellent coach and some team mates who
actually want to play and not just pick
daisies and spin around in the dirt. I'm hoping we
can maybe leave that behind when spring ball
gets underway again and get on with the business
of getting this kid a contract.
After all, this is our retirement
we are talking about!

Have cheesecake, will travel

So. This is not just any old cheesecake. This is a cheesecake from the Carnegie Deli in New York City; a gift from Judi for my birthday this year. It arrived via FedEx from New York to my house in Martinsburg, West Virginia, the best birthday gift ever! And then, because I absolutely could not eat any of it without sharing it with her, I trekked it across Maryland, through Pennsylvania and Ohio and then up
into Michigan where it was devoured I mean savored over Labor Day weekend.

Not all of it by the two of us I should point out. Because that would have been ridiculous.

Yes, of course, you may be right. We may, in fact, be completely crazy. But that Carnegie Deli cheesecake came fully loaded with a gazillion happy memories of the time we shared its yumminess after wandering in blissful delirium at 2 in the morning through the streets of New York City after seeing Bruce at Madison Square Garden, high on rock and roll and friendship.

Judi's Garden

Judi is my best friend in all the world. And this is her garden. William and I drove to Michigan to visit her and Bob and their family on a whim over Labor day weekend. To be honest, it was partly me being reactionary and belligerent because I did not want William to be the only child at Grandparent's Day at school without a grandparent present. But don't get me started on that. Since Judi is his de facto gramma, it made perfect sense to drive the 8 hours across all of Pennsylvania and Ohio to see her.
We had a great time. Also, we ate cheesecake.

Take me out to the ballgame (part 1)

We love baseball and we love Camden Yards. Took an impromptu trip there last weekend and Uncle Ted came along too. Great fun, combined with a great win by the O's. While watching a pre-game warm up, the opposing team's catcher threw a ball to William for him to keep. Fab souvenir! We took a stroll along the harbor in Baltimore before the game. Didn't get home til after 1 am owing to an accident on I70 that had us at a standstill for almost an hour. Ouch.
