Report card triumph

We are so, so happy with William's first report card from St Joseph school. He did an awesome job; A's for everything except social studies, for which he got a B. Pretty darn good for a kid who at the beginning of the year absolutely couldn't see the point in going to school at all. Sister Margaret Ann said it was an excellent report card and that she was very, very happy with him.
So we spoiled him rotten today. Unlike every other day of his life, naturally.

William and Poppy

This photo was taken a couple of days before we left Australia this summer. We were in a Brazilian restaurant in Leichhardt with my family.  It was a farewell dinner of sorts.  Predictably crazy but fun. I love how much my son loves my Dad. I wish with all my heart there was an easier way to bridge the distance this ocean puts between us.

With the power to break your heart

It is difficult to explain dying and death and the concept of Heaven to a six year old. Yesterday William and I had very deep conversation. It came about because we were playing and joking around and I said to him 'you know, not everyone has a mother like me!'
He said 'does everyone have some kind of mommy?' and I said 'most people have mommies but I guess some do not'.
He said 'is that because they got sick and died?' Can't lie and pretend that doesn't happen so I said 'sometimes - not very often - but sometimes that is what happens, yes.'
He then said 'well, if you got sick and died I would totally kill myself'.
Horrified, I said 'I don't EVER want to hear you say that, that is a terrible thing to say or even think'.
He said 'no Mommy, I would have to do that so I could be with you in Heaven. I'm definitely not staying here by myself'.
I said 'well, in the unlikely event that that happened, Daddy would really need you here with him'.
William: 'Uh, helllloooo, Daddy would be coming right up to Heaven with us. And then, I would get a string and hang it down from Heaven and get Raffy (poodle from hell) too.'

Me: You would do that?
Him: Yes, definitely.
Me: OK then, sounds like a plan.

About half an hour passes and I'm busy making dinner. William comes out and says 'So, what do they have to eat up there anyway? I hope God has plenty of hotdogs and chocolate chip cookies.'

Just when I think I couldn't possibly love this child anymore than I already do, he goes and make me love him more.

Ticket angst

It never gets any easier. No matter how many times you do it. You want the tickets, you don't want the angst that goes hand in hand with trying to get the tickets. Because no matter what you say, 'in the door' just doesn't cut it. Who are these people who are happy, truly happy, with 'in the door' tickets? They are either insane or must never have been up close. Because once you are up close, you can never go back. You are spoiled for all eternity. Once you've locked eyes with those eyes, it's all over.
So. We will try for our tickets tomorrow. If we get them, we do. If we don't, it will be ok. It will be meant to be, and we will not go. I have no business right now flitting off to Pittsburgh anyway.
Ideally, someone would just anonymously send us the 'right' tickets. They would just appear. As a mark of gratitude for all these long years of service to the cause. This time tomorrow we will know...

I love this photo. He's looking at me, she's looking at him, and on my camera screen is the actual shot of them I took just seconds before. I just think it's really neat.

You may have guessed by now, I love this song, and this video.

Too funny

I love the pumpkin patch

Smashing pumpkins?

I just love the way the shadow is dancing on this pumpkin.

My favorite people

Pretty self explanatory really....

Judi Johnson and me. It's all her fault.

Rebecca and me at Virginia Beach.

Bruce and Patti. Love them!

So many reasons

I took this photo of me and Bruce outside the Omni Hotel on Saturday November 6, 2010. Yes, I took it.  Even though I am in it. Bruce was doubtful that I could do it. He said 'well, if you think you can do that... but I don't know...' Well, mate, proved you wrong! Love this photo. It's my favorite one of us together. Because, like, I have *tons* of photos of me and Bruce together. Tons I tell you.

One of my absolute favorite days (weekends) from last year. In November, Judi, Lori, Dea, Christy and I met up in Pittsburgh to see Bruce play with Joe Grushecky at the Soldiers and Sailors Hall. We stayed at the same hotel as Bruce, The Omni, quite by coincidence of course. (If you believe that you will believe anything). We had an awesome time together, not only at the shows, but hanging around the hotel and being total fan girls. Albeit very sophisticated fan girls, of course. No one does fan girls quite like we do.

And so, this week, in a fabulous bit of news, we discovered we get to do it all over again this November. I think Pittsburgh is my most favorite place in all the United States. Cannot wait to see my girls again. The shows are almost an after thought. Almost.

This is me still trying to work out this blog design

OK so I just spent quite a long time working on this page layout. I am going to be MAD if none of it took. Just sayin'. Seriously, someone could spend a LOT of time doing this. I still can't figure out how to do some things and get them looking how I want. And am I going to delete these mucking around posts? Dunno mate. (PS, found out what a jump break is... lol)

Switching to a new blog

So even the old  blog is new now with so many different design features. So how do you see stuff with the new interface then? This is all really crazy. I can see how someone could spend weeks doing all this and still not be happy with it. I mean, it's not even like anyone is ever even going to read this.

I am so disappointed in iCloud :(

I am really disappointed in the whole iWeb shebang. I have been waiting patiently for the iCloud and now it seems iWeb is not included in the deal. So what's the point?
